There is no doubt that overthinking is an incurable illness. It creates plights that are just made in one’s mind, but actually those plights are not real.
Equally important is the fact that overthinking kills action; this means when someone overthinks, he/she gets stuck in “what if” loops. Overthinking compels the mind to be trapped in past scenarios of life or in the tension of the future. To illustrate this point, mostly anxiety, mental fatigue, depression, and bad sleep are faced by over-thinkers.
Thinking is truly a blessing, but on the other hand, overthinking makes the mind out of control, and at a point when the mind is out of control, it begins utilizing the body instead of the body utilizing the mind.
Four dangerous effects of overthinking can destroy one’s mental health:
The first one is “Anxiety “ thoughts creates emotions; no matter if it is grief, anger, or fear, there are sensations that are produced by thoughts. Extremely anxious people make lots of fake scenarios in their minds for worrying about what’s going to happen next. Worrying about the future, they forget to live their present, and these unreal thoughts can make them feel lonely, exhausted, and even ready to commit suicide.
The second one is “Depression” while anxiety comes from worrying about the future, depression is a consequence of being stuck in the past. Overthinking drags people towards depression, and the most depressed people are always stuck in their past and thinking, “What if”
“What if I hadn’t made that mistake?”
“What if that never happened to me” or many other stupid thoughts can hit their minds.
But whatever they do, the past can never be altered; it’s great to take the lessons generated by their life experiences with them and make better decisions in the future.
The third one is “Insomnia.” Have you ever experienced that you want to go to sleep but your active mind is holding you from doing so? Even when the body is exhausted, your mind may be quite awake.
What people often do is force themselves to go to sleep, but that will never work because falling asleep is a mechanism that the mind cannot control.
This is a very dangerous condition because sleep is crucial for your well-being and functioning during the day.
The last one is “Paralysis” overthinking makes people mentally paralyzed and unable to make the right decisions. Perhaps you have too many ideas, but still you feel trapped in your thoughts.
To sum up, overthinking is the root of many problems, and many mental problems have physical solutions.
Meditation is a simple solution for calming the mind, and there are many other options to look into, like exercise, diet, etc
So, let your body utilise your mind not your mind utilise your body.
